Out arm is to rebuild the soil to its prime. It may take more than one lifetime, but the work has begun.

We are also working with some leading nutritionists from Australia and abroad to help provide high protein and high nutrient plant species and insect attracting wild flowers to their fertile pastures

Heritage breeds are becoming a rarity amongst pork producers as the market has pushed faster growing, leaner pigs to increase profits. These days the majority of pork in Australian supermarkets is imported, which has driven down pricing resulting in the closure of many smaller pork farms.Organic grain prices have risen over the last few years with the drought, which has closed down many other small producers.
We value taste and nutrition over profits, so we cross the Old Black English Princess breed with the traditional Wessex Saddlebacks.We move our pigs daily to a fresh patch of pasture. They are grown a little longer and a little fatter, grazing on fresh farm fruits, pastured eggs and a certified sustainable mash free of chemicals and antibiotics. The result is a juicy rose coloured, full flavoured meat, very unlike “The other white meat’’.
Our herd of Angus cattle graze freely on the lush pastures, with a diverse range of fresh pick to choose from. They are grass fed and grass finished, whilst moving around the property in a rotational pattern mowing down the vegetation and trampling in their manure. It takes about two years to grow out cattle naturally. In that time the meat takes on a beautiful flavour and plenty of essential healthy fats.
For most of the year we follow the regenerative practice of moving our cattle into small fenced off paddocks of fresh pick on a daily basis, however in the heat of summer we increase their area and length of stay so they have access to the many pockets of rainforest still remaining on the property. We know the benefit moving cattle each day into small areas has for the fertility of the soil, but choose to balance this out by not forcing our cattle to stand in full sun in the middle of Summer.
In the 1930s the need arose for a sheep breed which could produce fast growing lambs with a high quality carcass under extensive conditions. Originally bred for the arid regions of South Africa, Dorpers originate from the cross breeding of Blackhead Persian ewes with a Dorset Horn ram.
We have incorporated Dorper sheep into our rotational grazing cycle as they are a complete grazing animal. Known for their ability to convert poor quality pasture into rapid weight gain, dorpers will eat the less desirable plants that other animals leave behind, leading to an ever increasing pasture quality. They are sure to thrive up here with the nutrient rich and diverse feed available to them.
Our dorpers have looked at home on the farm since the day they joined us. There was no settling in or adjusting period; it was as if they had been here for years. We move the herd daily along with their two trainee guardian maremma puppies Stumpy and Harley.
Whilst our herd is only small at the moment, dorpers are rapid breeders and we look forward to increasing our herd size to enable us to share some of this prized meat.
One of the main reason why people cultivate and eat rhubarb is for its astounding nutritional value. It is packed with minerals, organic compounds, and other nutrients that make it ideal for keeping our bodies healthy. Rhubarb is typically grown using loads of herbicides to keep the grass out, and pesticides to keep the bugs away.
At Grazed & Grown we have planted companion plants to help out compete the grass & share nutrients with the rhubarb. Grass control and fertilising is also managed by the piglets working their way through the isles.
